TIE AND DYE KURTAS AND KURTA SETS IN 2021
Contemporary designs have been taking over ethnic wear for a while. One such contemporary craft or design is that of tie-dying. Tie Dye is a term used to describe the ancient resistant-dyeing technique, where strings are tied around the fabric and then dyed into beautiful colours. Each material gives a different kind of impression on the fabric. Tie and dye is one of the most ancient and traditional techniques of decorating a fabric in India. Different cultures around the world have practiced and perfected this craft over centuries. Tie and dye fabrics are also known as ‘Bandhej’ or ‘Bandhani’ in Rajasthan. For this process, the fabric can be folded, tied, bunched together, crushed or otherwise manipulated in some way, tied with a thread and then dipped into a dye to create beautiful patterns.
The two most popular types of tie-dye designs are Bandhani and Leheriya. Bandhani is a highly skilled process where the fabric is tied tightly with a thread at several points in order to create various patterns such as chandrakala, bavan baug, shikari, etc. The colours used in this technique are usually natural colours. Since Bandhani is done by hand, our artisans produce the best colour combinations with this technique. Leheriya on the other hand, is a fabric with colourful diagonal or chevron striped patterns that have been created through resist dyeing. It is a resist technique exclusive to Rajasthan, its main centres being the cities of Jaipur and Jodhpur. Both these techniques help us create some of the most unique styles for our ethnic wear.
